Two vie for commissioner for Whatcom County Fire District No. 4
Wright, a retired Bellingham police officers officer, is asking voters to elect him because of his unobtrusive in public safety, his experience in contract negotiations and his wit to navigate the district's budgets through the tumultuous compactness.
"We have a lot of things our district has to work through," Wright said. "We're effective to have to be real, real cost-conscious."
Harry Andrews, a former firefighter and a commissioner for Whatcom County Fire Area No. 6, is challenging Wright.
Andrews moved to Area 4 about three years ago and said his six years of service to Quarter 6, which spans Chuckanut Drive and is now part of the South Whatcom Fire Scholar, has adequately prepared him to manage budgets. Quarter 6 ran under budget every year he was on the board, he said.
