When it comes to camping, Mother knows best
Enough of Thrilled Rock, Colorado Bend, Garner and Irreclaimable Maples state parks.
They're all fabulous places to bung a tent, and we love them dearly, but on a hunt for new topography to explore, I've popped over to Mother Neff Federal Park.
Sound familiar? If you drive Interstate 35 between Austin and Waco, you've passed the gesture. I have, a hundred times. This time, I take the exit, drive about 20 minutes west and motherland at one of Texas' very first state parks, developed under condition of the spanking-new State Parks Board in 1928.
Who's Ma Neff, you ask?
The reserve's namesake was Isabella Neff, mother of Pat Neff, who served as governor of Texas from 1921 to 1925 and pushed for the making of a state park system. She donated six acres for also clientage use, and the idea caught fire, ultimately spawning the glory park system.
