towing capacity, 1992 Buick LaSabre Limited???

Posted by daytonafun_tim

I called Buick yesterday, and they told me that our '92 Buick LaSabre Limited could haul a total capacity of 3000ibs, -tongue weight, and passengers. THAT, was if there is a "V92" stamped on the spare tire/donut cover. (I gave them my VIN #, so I woulda thought that they could give me direct info, but they didn't.)

Anyway, our LaSabre doesn't have a "V92" stamped there, and when I was on the phone talking with Buick, I asked them if "what if it doesn't have that on there" and they told me that "then you can't haul your [pop-up camper]" which is what I'd like to use it for.

Therefore since, from what I've seen, it doesn't have this code, can I still haul with it? I have another car (2000 Ford Taurus SE), but I'm unsure if it can even haul anything (it only have the 3.0 153HP engine).

I really want/need a pop-up trailer, and I've search AutoAnything.com and they have (2) trailer hitches useable with a 1992 Buick LaSabre Limited. Soo... anyhelp?
This car has the 3.8L V6, which I would think should have plenty of power for a 2000ibs (or less) pop-up camper. Forgot to add that in there.

The 3000 lbs capacity would be for the towing package, which it sounds like your car doesn't have.

A mid-sized car (including your Taurus) should tow 2000 lbs with the right hitch (a class 2). I think you can tow your camper with your LaSabre. My family towed a pop-up with a 1988 Taurus wagon with the 3.0L V6 [140 hp] plus five people and all their stuff on board.

My dad's Grand Marquis does not have a tow package, but with it could have been rated for 5000 pounds. It is actually rated for 2000 lbs the way it is. We put a class 4 hitch on it and towed our 5000 lb camping trailer with it. It worked, but my dad bought a Suburban for longer trips afterwards. The Grand Marquis handles a utility trailer with two snowmobiles on it with no problem.

When in doubt, check the owner's manual. However, 2000 lbs, when properly equipped, is normal for a mid-sized sedan. Go for the heavier of the hitches. A class 2 hitch is rated for 2000 lbs and should do the job for you.
