What is the plastic case that holds a cars side view mirrors in place?

My 02 Ford Explorer was recently vandalized in Brooklyn. The vandals broke both side view mirrors, well actually the plastic casing around them. I managed to snap the passengers side back into place but had to use electrical tape to secure it. What is the part that I need to replace called? Is this a relatively minor repair that can be done on my own?
That's called the mirror housing and does not come as a separate piece.You need to buy new assemblies.They can be bought aftermarket made in Taiwan that are identical to the original for half the money.Ask around at any auto parts store to see if they'll order them for you.They aren't too difficult to install,the trim panels need to be partially loosened then they bolt on with 11mm head bolts.
